About Us

RepCV was born from pride—pride in our family, our culture, and the beautiful islands of Cabo Verde.

Like many Cape Verdean Americans raised in Connecticut, our connection to Cabo Verde started at home. We grew up hearing Kriolu spoken around the dinner table, enjoying homemade Cape Verdean dishes prepared by a grandmother whose cooking brought family and friends together. Our summers were filled with Cape Verdean picnics, community gatherings, and celebrations where laughter, music, and culture were always at the center.

We remember spending evenings at dances and festivals, listening to legendary Cape Verdean bands who provided the soundtrack to so many memories. Even while growing up far from the islands, Cabo Verde was always present—in our homes, our traditions, our music, and our values.

Like many second and third-generation Cape Verdeans, we understood where our family came from, but a visit to Cabo Verde in 2019 transformed that understanding into something much deeper. Walking the islands, meeting the people, experiencing the culture firsthand, and seeing the beauty and resilience of our homeland sparked a renewed sense of pride and connection. It inspired us to learn more, celebrate more, and become more involved in sharing the rich history and culture of Cabo Verde.

Today, as we watch our national soccer team compete on the world's biggest stage, we are reminded of how far our small island nation has come. Cabo Verde may be small in size, but it has always been enormous in spirit. Our people have built communities around the world through hard work, determination, resilience, and an unwavering sense of pride in who we are.

RepCV exists to celebrate that spirit.
